DISABILITY IS JUST A WORD

DISABILITY/DISABLED - a word through which many people living in this world are linked or will get linked later. When we heard this word, we start thinking of a person who uses a wheelchair, or someone who is deaf or blind, or someone who has a mental disorder, etc. Many people don't want others to be called them by this word. It is the word by which many people QUESTIONS someone's ability.

BUT WHY? IS IT JUST BECAUSE OF THE WORD??

Well, we are living in the 21-century where with each surpassing day, new technologies are coming. Everything around us is changing very quickly but, the TABOO of talking about disability is still there.

More than 1 billion persons in the world have some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world's population. People still think that a person with disabilities is BURDEN to society or is being CURSE by god. Just by seeing someone for once, we make assumptions about them and their future. BUT WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE THEM? WHO GAVE US THE RIGHT TO JUDGE??

It is very easy to be an able-body person, we likely to get things so easy, we don't have to get dependent on our family or friends. We can go anywhere we want. We can't even imagine the challenges that person with disabilities have to face to do their daily activities. For example, a person with SCI( spinal cord injury) is using a wheelchair and, he needs to go to the 2nd floor of their school but, he can't go because there is no provision of Lift or a Ramp at the school premises, he needs somebody's help to reach out there.

Just because a person has a disability, it does not mean that we so-called ''normal people'' have the right to bully them or can say anything. We tag or mark them as they can't do anything in their life, or they are just useless, we tend to stare at them, make fun of them, call them by different names, etc.

Sometimes we take simple things in our life for granted and fail to recognize obstacles that a person with a disability has to overcome every day. The ease of our own lives, prevents us from seeing life through the eyes of others.

Is it not our duty to make them feel comfortable in this society?

Basically, the part problem with word disability is, that people immediately linked it with inability. We forget to see them as normal individuals.

Due to this, WORLD'S LARGEST MINORITY GROUP IS STILL FACING PROBLEMS.

But some people are there, who are making every possible effort to uplift the disabled community through their work and are encouraging them to do whatever they like.

There are various examples of such great personalities who have broken all the taboos of society and had made people believe that "EVERY PERSON IN THIS WORLD CAN DO ANYTHING''.

These are just few names, there are thousands of people who have disabilities and are doing wonders.
One common thing in all of them is that they never made their disability as their weakness, they keep working for what they want from their life.

We as a society need to change our mindsets, it is not their fault that they are disabled, it is our fault that we make them feel that they are disabled. We forget that THERE IS ABILITY IN EVERY DISABILITY.

If you are a person with any disability or any other health condition that restricts your life and reading this, always remember that you are not ALONE. Never be afraid that you are different. START YOUR JOURNEY and ignore what people are thinking about you, BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE & STAY POSITIVE.

Always remember that ''Disability is just a word''.

SEE THEM AS WONDERFULLY ORDINARY INDIVIDUALS
