I was in 4th grade when I got to know about the word, DYSLEXIA which is a learning disability. Before this, I never knew what exactly disability is. My friend has this disability, She has a problem in writing spellings, sentences, reading and, it takes time for her to write an answer. The things which are easier for me are some kind of difficult for her. But, these things never made her feel that she is different as she never hesitates in taking part in different activities or competitions. In fact, she is one of the most confident and happy person that I have ever met. As I was growing up I have got to know many other health conditions which are named under disability or disorders. But, there is always one thing which I always ask myself( even now) that why we use the word " disabled ".
Years have passed by asking myself this question, I have come in 11 grade and have just started using Snapchat. I started using it more frequently and, One day after few minutes of scrolling, it bought me down to a profile of BORN DIFFERENT, I could not resist and I start watching their videos. That page tells about stories of people who have a disability or some kind of health condition that limits one's performance. Those videos had changed my mindset and had opened the windows of my brain.
These people have taught me no matter what difficulties you will face in your lives, we all have the courage or power to get out of them or to face them.
They have taught me that we all have only one life no matter how it is, we all have the ability to do things and to make our dreams come true.
As there is still a misconception about the word disability, it encouraged me to make this page ''KNOW ME FOR MY ABILITIES''.
This page's main aim is to break the taboo associated with the word disability in the world/society that often thinks that having a disability or a health condition( which makes one different) is a CURSE & to encourage people that having a disability is not an end, one can do great things in life.
This page also AIMS TO EDUCATE people about disabilities and other health conditions.
